19th april 2011 ... weekly volunteers

Present:

John, Martin, Anthony, Keith, and Neil

Activities:

- ragwort near the tool store dealt with.  plants hidden in the brambles if of any size.

- Road works.  Did a lot of work on the M1 trying to stop erosion caused by rain running down the ruts that have been generated there.  Still some work to do there, and in particular over the brow nearer the cricket pitch

- Tidied up the logs and bark at the roller stand to make it look better for people and Ponies

- dealt with birch saplings as noted last week on staples hill on the boundary side of the path.

- all very hot work, and retired a little early.

Observations:

- bracken coming up.

- plenty of butterflies around for the time of year.  brimstone, orange tip, holly blue.

- ravens and buzzards have a go at each other

- dark adder seen by Keith at the roller stand

- lizards aplenty

- a visitor reported a wheatear.
