Tuesday, 17 April 2018 ... weekly volunteers



Description:Present: Keith, Alan, David w, John new, Jonathan, Stuart, David a, Mike p, Mike m, Ian, Ben, Bernard, Ray and Martin Activities: - tried to put up a kestrel nest box, but box failed at last moment and fell to the ground. Keith has taken away for repair before trying again - Stuart brought some more hardcore which was put to work strengthening the kerbs of the road. Mike p scraped up some mud from in Front of the shed and placed on top as a filler. - went to quarry and continued birch cutting and splitting. - Mike p and David a finished renovating the drainage cuts across the track of the M1. They cut 2 new ones. - some pine and birch saplings were cut or pulled near the bottom of the pillow mound behind the cottages. The scaffold pole pulling operation was demonstrated. - Alan bagged up some compost for putting on his garden. - looked the ponies. They are losing their winter hair. Observations: - cold wind to start with, but nice in the quarry and after lunch - brimstone, peacock and small copper were first butterflies of the year - chiffchaffs, redstarts, wood larks, goldfinch, linnet, redpolls, old pheasant egg, - lizard Martin
