Tuesday, 3 July 2018 ... weekly volunteers


Description:Present: John, David w, Stuart, Jonathan, Ray, Mike p, Ian, Neil, David a, Ben, Keith, Bob, Alan, and Martin Activities: - looked the ponies. 15 cattle arrived in the morning after coffee - bracken pulled in big sweep across under power lines, and then up to the corner. Some was also done in south heath after coffee - watering was again done on cherries and hornbeams. All trees seem to be doing fine. The ground is getting very dry though - finished the last bit of the nestbox survey, clearing out most nests. Some have bees. - a bit more drilling done, though not so successfully. Need to check the bits. - Started making an Irish bridge over one of the gullies that flow down to the stream under the central fence. Used the arisings from coppicing and pollarding alder in the stream. More work needed Observations: - Hot - travelers have left friends clump - found old patch of dodder along road, and refound one of the patches near the car park - ringlet, skippers, meadow browns, brimstones - centaury, clover, knapweed, bog asphodel - discussed ticks again - Keith to get extra hedge pliers and froe - siskins, redpolls, crossbills, Stonechats Martin
